Peer support groups for grieving children, teens and their families
Our TreeHouse provides a safe environment where children and their families grieving
a death can share their experiences and help them heal. Children and teens who have had
a parent, sibling or primary care giver die often feel isolated. They may have difficulty
in school or suffer from depression. Providing a safe place for children, teens and their
families to come together in mutual support can help them realize they are not alone and
that all the feelings they have are a normal part of the grieving process.

“In the words of my daughter, ‘it’s the only place that I don’t feel out of place. The other kids get me
in a way other people can’t because most of them have lost a parent too. I don’t have to explain anything
or even talk about it if I don’t want to. I can simply be me.’ ”

“Ever since my husband and my children’s father Roland died, I have struggled with a way to turn something horrible
into something hopeful. Our TreeHouse is one way to accomplish this in a meaningful way.”
